Following previous successful nights, the SUDS Hidden Talent Show is back! You will laugh, you will cry and you will be surprised at the awe inspiring and at times ludicrous talents of our performers. Singing? Dancing? Stand-up? Who knows? This Friday, all will be revealed….

Raising money for this year’s Brighton Fringe production of Hedda Gabler, it’s only £3 for performers and spectators, so come along.

For Brighton Fringe 2012, SUDS are taking a boisterously decadent and bleakly comic production of Henrik Ibsen’s ‘Hedda Gabler’. Set in a decaying drawing room splitting at the seams, this production will be staged at The Old Courtroom Theatre in the heart of Fringe territory, and will be our chance to show public audiences the depth and range of our talent and creativity.
Auditions for the play: Wednesday 25th January, from 11am-6pm.

Location: Falmer Common Room, first floor of Falmer House

Recalls: During the day on Friday 27th January.

Before you audition you must be aware of these key points:

1.The performances will take place 10th-13th May during the evening.
2.Anyone is welcome, even if you have never acted before, not even as a tree in your first-school Nativity play.
3.Old and new SUDS members, and those thinking of joining SUDS, are given equal opportunity to audition.
4.You do not need to prepare anything for the audition.
5.If you are successful, you will be expected to commit fully. This includes be able to rehearse throughout Easter and being completely willing to take part in various flyering and publicity exercises come the Fringe.

Rehearsals will take place over the course of a few months. The breakdown (subject to alter slightly) is as follows:
a.January-March: character work. Some script work but focus is on forming strong characters and smashing existing preconceptions about the play
b.Easter Holidays – move on to script work, rehearsing scenes in thorough detail
c.After Easter-early May – run-throughs and polishing. We are bringing this production to a professional standard.

It’s an excellent opportunity to perform at one of the world’s most exciting theatre festival!

An artist, a scientist and a sexpot are coming to dinner. Paige, hostess extrordinare, is celebrating the publication of her husband’s bestseller. The arrival of Mike, marooned in the foggy lane adds an unexpected addition to the evenings entertainment. A silent waiter, sourced from some obsure website completes the picture – let the dinner from hell begin.
Come Dine With Me on acid, with blood before taxis

-Brand new piece of writing ‘A Day With Bruno’

A man escapes into his mind to cope with grief, after the death of a loved one through a series of surreal experiences in everyday surroundings. With constant reminders of his past relationship, he reflects on his regrets resulting in his own fragmented solace.

-’Bed’ by Jim Cartwright

Seven elderly people share an enormous bed, to dream, remember and reflect on a long past. Through a series of sparkling snapshots, our characters are enveloped by sleep and its consequences. From a country road to the depths of the sea, from tears to laughter, ‘Bed’ explores sleep in a way only a dreamer knows possible.

You don’t have to prepare anything before hand, just turn up and have a go! There’ll be plenty of SUDS t-shirt-clad helpers to answer any questions and talk you through the process as we know how worrying auditions can be.

Based on a true story and set mainly during the Second World War, We’ll Meet Again focuses on the life of one woman as she struggles to cope with the oppression of her family and her desire for a more exciting life. As she begins to claim the independence she has longed for, she soon finds that chasing after excitement has consequences she is not quite prepared for and betraying the values she held so highly brings guilt that echoes into generations to come.

Join SUDS this Halloween as we celebrate all things deathly and explore the world of witches, wizards, elves and murder. Come watch as SUDS divulge the story that everybody else was too afraid to tell you!

Dress yourselves up in all your Halloween finery and join us for an evening of ridiculous and terrifying fun, followed by a trip out into the more-terrifying-than-usual Brighton with SUDS and all of our friends!

Starting at 7.30pm in the Debating Chamber, first floor Falmer House, just £3 to witness the horror and silly-ness that SUDS have to offer. If you can’t come along the the Murder Mystery then join us from 9pm in Falmer Bar to head into town!

Back from its 4 star Edinburgh run, Coal Head, Toadstool Mouth and Other Stories explores the terrible, grotesque, surreal, sublime, confusing, passionate, ecstatic and downright stupid moments in our lives through its uniquely crafted and strangely sympathetic jumble of characters. Conjunctives 

Beth loves people watching. She is supposed to be ‘growing-up’ but choices are still being made for her, outside her control. A series of conjunctive scenes, connecting the characters in Beth’s life, leads her to realise that sometimes you have to let go of what was and just look ahead…

Week 7

The Art of Losing (and how to do it gracefully) 

A girl tries to make herself lighter by losing her mind, a magician tells his story from end to beginning and the
man who paints the moon and the man who paints the sun have a fight to the death…this is the world where everything can vanish and nothing is taken for granted.
To be performed: 16th, 17th & 18th Nov. (Week 7) 7pm start. To be performed off-campus in Brighton (exact location TBC).

Week 8

All in the Timing

Performed by a cast of only freshers, All in the Timing is a side-splittingly funny collection of short plays by oddball playwright David Ives. Chimps are forced to re-create Hamlet, a con man teaches a dubious language, and a man, with some help from a bell, successfully flirts with a woman…
To be performed: 23rd, 24th and 25th November (Week 8). Creativity Zone (formerly InQbate), 7pm, £5

We’ll Meet Again 

Set mainly during the Second World War, SUDS presents a new piece of writing focusing on the life of one

Richard II

In a play which witnesses the crumbling of a medieval world order, Richard II explores the nature of the power of language, of what constitutes kingship and the implications of political revolution.
