Sussex University Drama Society (SUDS), is the first stop for any student interested in anything to do with the world of the theatre.
If you love acting, can’t wait to direct, need to have a hand in stage management, fancy writing your own play, or can’t get enough of lights and other technical gizmos, then you can be pretty sure we’ll be interested in having you on board. Ours is the only Union society on campus to actually stage published plays which are open to the paying public. Each term, we put on an average of four plays, usually beginning in Week 6 or 7, all of which have been directed by, feature, and are entirely managed by students of the university. They are open to all students to take part in, with the exception of the (self-explanatory) Freshers’ Play. Several of our members past and present have gone off and set up their own production companies, and perform in and around the Brighton and Hove theatre-hub. So being involved with a company like SUDS could really open up several opportunities in the cold, harsh, real world…

I would love to be a part of SUDS, I don’t have any acting experience except for a couple of acting classes I took at college. Im going to study at The university of sussex this fall as an international student from sweden, so Im a bit concerned about I will be here in time for the auditions, so I was wondering if you have specific dates on when the auditions will be and what I have to prepare for the auditon.

Hi Isra, so glad that you found out about SUDS before you even came to Sussex-you’re way ahead of the curve! A lot of actors come and audition despite having no experience acting before so that really is absolutely no problem at all! We don’t have dates for the Fall auditions yet but they will be in Fresher’s Week of autumn term-what ever that happens to be-and well will put the exact dates on the website as well as posting it on the SUDS Facebook group and mailing list so you can joing both of those for any updates!
