SUDS Presents: Richard II
|
Richard is a willful and politically naïve king deriving his self-assurance from his deeply held belief in his divine authority to rule. However when he banishes a dangerous rival and seizes his estate to fund a war abroad his nobles begin to turn against him. Richard returns home to find not only his crown under threat, but his very conception of kingship and the right to rule. Set in the early twentieth century towards the end of the reign of the Tzars of Russia, this interpretation focuses on the political fallout when modern power relations suddenly confront absolute monarchy.Director: Rishi Vasudev
